ABOUT COOPER LANZA
Expressive Oil Painting
We are surrounded by stories. We are ourselves stories. Cooper Lanza's stylized portraits capture these stories through expressive oil paintings that leave the viewer with a sense of curiosity -- we want to know the rest of the story.
Cooper is a Master of Fine Art who has been painting and drawing for over 50 years. She earned her MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2016. Cooper worked in Seattle as a Decorative Finisher and Scenic Artist before pursuing her MFA. She has a BFA in Performance Production from Cornish College of the Arts.
The fine art school offers classes to beginners and advanced students in classical technique and expressive painting. Cooper facilitates weekly Life Drawing and Long Pose sessions in the gallery with a live model.

I believe an informed artist can work better and do better work
The mentor/teacher, the space, the energy -- thank God this place exists! I feel anyone can learn something from Cooper and be so inspired. She is a teacher who believes everyone can evolve in their passion for art. She is humble yet demonstrates her expertise in fine art with enthusiasm, patience, positivity and motivation. I so look forward to class and learn something every time.
The last few years I have taken to oil painting and I must give credit to Cooper Lanza, an art teacher who runs the Cooper Lanza Gallery and School of Fine Art, in Fairhaven. Cooper knows when to help and steer my decision making in the right direction...and when to let me alone. I'm best painting with my independent spirit AND with the sensitivity of the right teacher.
Cooper is a lively and motivating artist and mentor. And the space is lovely too! I recommend the classes and the drawing groups on the weekends!
Cooper has an incredible artistic talent and a willingness to share all of her tricks through her instruction. She teaches with a contagious sense of humor in a setting that is perfect for the creative spirit!
